Prophesies concerning Jesus Christ continued
Some other prophesies about what Jesus would be like are as follows:-
Jesus Christ would bind up the broken-hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives and announce the acceptable year of the Lord.
Isaiah chapter 61 verses 1-2 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
Jesus himself claimed to have fulfilled this prophecy some 800 years after Isaiah foretold it.
Luke chapter 4 verses 18-21 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Jesus Christ would heal people of disease and sickness.
Isaiah chapter 53 verse 4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
Isaiah chapter 35 verses 5-6 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
Isaiah chapter 42 verse 18 “Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see!
Again over 800 years later we read in the New Testament in the book of Matthew.
Matthew chapter 8 verses 16-17 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”
Jesus in answer to the question posed by followers of John the Baptist as to whether he was the one who was to come replied in :-
Matthew chapter 11 verse 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
Jesus Christ would teach in parables.
Isaiah chapter 6 verses 9-10 He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
Psalms 78 verse 2 I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old
Once again Jesus claims to be fulfilling this prediction:-
Matthew chapter 13 verses 11-15 He (Jesus) replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I (Jesus) speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’
Matthew chapter 13 verses 34-35 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”
Jesus Christ would be tender and compassionate.
Isaiah chapter 40 verse 11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Isaiah chapter 42 verse 3 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
Once more the book of Matthew records the fulfilment of these ancient writings of Isaiah.
Matthew chapter 12 verses 15-21 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick, warning them not to tell who he was. This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”

Hebrews chapter 4 verse 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.
