Me and Them
An evening in summer
some crackers and cheese
I sit in the silence
and ponder with ease
I’m led to this insight
all this and the world
The pillar of truth
where the serpent is curled
Distracting obsessions
clothes-money-food
look out for your’self’
and be led by the mood
Discarded clothes
a half bag of sweets
Eat like a queen
from the bins and the streets
I see not from my eyes
but my heart yells free
that my life here – and now
can’t be all about ME
We – over nourished
Too sluggish to care
While the duty stands clear
We all have ‘their’ share
Oh dare I escape
from this prison of wealth
The fact I am here
should mean more than my ‘self’
I have the resources
To help save another
We are all under God
and my neighbour – my brother
Yet all it amounts to
is a shameful unease
as my stomach is bloated
from too much cheese
But the truth remains strong
Though for now I ignore it
But something’s stirred up
and I plan to explore it
For I’m in the boat
but the Lord’s at the helm
and the strength of the wind’s
made my heart overwhelm
Excitement and passion-
A joy for the truth
With JESUS-the answer
For we are the proof!
