Psalm of an Autumn Eve

Noises outside this room

Disturb me not –  for I am consumed –

My eyes fixed upon never ending time –

The dark sky, with a mysterious map of stars –

Countless- just as the existing space and time that they dwell.

The only ever moon- made to last the whole way,

lights up the rare and welcome mass of clouds.

Your night is beautiful, oh Lord,

And amongst the sounds of worldly hearts outside,

I have a peace, oh –  stiller than still.

The air is good for my body tonight,

– how eagerly I drink it in

as my soul drinks in Your presence.

I sadden that this time must pass,

Yet gladden there is surely more –

much more to come.

For giving us Your presence

is giving us the best

all the time.

Amen.
